$369.99

Product Type: FOLDING KNIVES

A Radical Slashing Blade. Designed for Self-Defense, Built to Perform.

The Civilian is one of Spyderco’s most distinctive designs — a purpose-built slashing tool with a radically curved VG-10 stainless blade. Its serrated curved edge is made for powerful draw cuts, while the thumb hole allows fast, one-handed opening.

Black G-10 handles, a sturdy lockback, and a reversible stainless pocket clip make it as practical to carry as it is formidable in hand. The serrated edge powers through fibrous material, the thumb-hole opening keeps deployment fast and one-handed, and the 5 1/4-inch closed profile stays compact in the pocket. A lanyard hole and included zipper storage pouch round out a folder built for serious use.

Honestly, I picked up the Civilian primarily for the novelty and its historical significance, as I don't really plan on using it for its intended purpose (I won't go into detail here about this, but it's easy enough to look up the story behind its design online). It also comes with a card from Spyderco explaining that its warranty does not extend to damage incurred while being used as a utility knife, which I'm perfectly fine with, I knew this going into the purchase, although I've seen people use the Civilian in a utility knife capacity & it seems to hold up just fine. It is a very well-executed example of a particular type of SD implement: the edge's serrated chisel grind is flawless, lock-up is bank vault-tight, the handle melts into the hand, and the iconic, pioneering S-curve blade is everything I imagined it to be. With the the caveat that I am fully aware of the limitations of its design scope, I give it high marks.

Greatly appreciate your wonderful comments about the Civilian knife.
