The Spyderco Matriarch 2 was originally developed in response to a request from Spyderco’s South African distributor, who needed a lightweight, easy-to-carry self-defense knife for women in Johannesburg during a time of rising crime. Drawing inspiration from the Civilian — a knife designed for U.S. law enforcement agents operating without firearms — the Matriarch 2 carries forward the same devastating cutting power in a more compact, accessible form.

Its reverse “S” SpyderEdge blade mimics the slicing motion of a cat’s claw, sweeping into a fine tip that excels at both precision and full-arm cutting motions. The hollow-ground VG-10 blade offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance, while the reinforced tip suits both defensive use and everyday carry. Built on the Endura 4 platform, the FRN handle features Bi-Directional Texturing for grip, a David Boye Dent lockback, and a four-way clip.
