Ah yes... The Shaman. Quite possibly my favorite spyderco design. Its a workhorse with few limitations, design lines that pull the eye in, and ergonomics that hug the hand and instill near infinite confidence.
S&R Knives sent me a truly perfect example of the Spyderco Shaman. When I received it, I felt very fortunate. It was perfect. Perfect lazer sharp bevel, perfect blade centering, perfect action (after break-in), and perfect cosmetic presentation.
Whats truly special about this model, is having what I would say is the most slept on steel today. Spy27. Its basically in-between S30V and S45VN (slightly below it), but with one huge benefit; it sharpens so easily! So insanely sharp too. It'll take any bevel with a mirror polish with ease. The maintenance factor of this steel is phenomenal. Use it hard, sharpen it up. Repeat. The blue G10 scales are actually really nice. The contours make any grip feel great. I much prefer them to the bodacious scales which can feel thin and slippery in my large hands.
In my opinion, any version of the Shaman is a winner. But the Spy27 version is second only to the Shaman Salt in Magnacut (Good luck finding one. I even missed the drop. So sad)

Hi Mark, thank you so much for sharing your detailed and enthusiastic review! We're thrilled to hear you're enjoying the Shaman and that it met your high standards. Spy27 really is a fantastic steel, and we're glad it’s working so well for you. We appreciate your support and look forward to serving you again!

Great knife! The Shaman is an absolute tank and is really comfortable in hand. Blade came sharp, with perfect centering and no blade play or lock stick. The satin blade is very nicely ground and the handle is smooth so it won't shred you pocket. The jimping is nice and sharp so it really locks in your grip when yoi choke up on it. The Manix and Shaman are my 2 favourite knives in my collection and I can't decided which I like better. Can't go wrong with either model, in my opinion.

Outstanding review. Indeed you are describing the 2 most popular well made knives. Many thanks and appreciate your continued support.
