The Yojimbo 2 has been my go-to work knife for close to a decade now. Yes, it was originally designed by Michael Janich to be a personal protection tool, but in my experience, it is also a great utility cutter. The relatively broad handle offers a very secure grip, and the handle's protruding butt-end—intended to serve as an "attitude adjuster"—makes it easy to grab the knife quickly from the pocket, even while wearing work gloves, and I've even used it for very light hammering tasks. But what really makes the Yojimbo 2 outstanding is its wharncliffe blade. The straight edge is simple to sharpen, and it also helps prevent unintentionally slipping "out of the cut" when making lengthy incisions into material like cardboard panels held in the off hand. And the blade's hollow grind greatly reduces the likelihood of it getting bound up when cutting into dense material like closed-cell foam. I've read comments online that the blade's fine tip is fragile, but in almost ten years of using a Yojimbo 2 as my primary work knife, I've never broken the tip on one. Maybe that means I'm lucky, or maybe that means the Yojimbo 2's blade tip isn't really any more fragile than those in many other folders, as long as it is used appropriately. Anyway, after using a Yojimbo 2 for so long, I figured it was time to get a back-up in case it got lost or stolen, and I thought that instead of getting just another vanilla Yojimbo 2, I'd get this pink G10 variant. It costs more, but a portion of the proceeds from the sale goes towards supporting the Living Beyond Breast Cancer non-profit organization. As someone who has family and friends who have been impacted by breast cancer, that's something I can wholeheartedly get behind: it's a win-win, I get a great work knife, and I also get to help breast cancer patients and survivors.
